Shani Crowe aka @crowezilla is an interdisciplinary artist from Chicago's south side. Her exhibit BRAIDS is taking the world by storm. Her work has traveled throughout the US, can be seen on Fox's Empire, and was a feature on Solange Knowles for her SNL performance. Shani received her BFA in film production from Howard University’s John H. Johnson School of Communications in 2011. Her work is centered on cultural coiffure and beauty ritual, as they relate to the diasporic African, and how these practices function as tools to foster connectivity. The collection with be displayed in Anacostia Arts Center until March. We welcome her BRAIDS exhibit with a kick-off artist talk. All are encouraged to join.
